LEONARDA BOUTIQUE

Os traigo un post muy especial en el que os quiero acercar a la firma Leonarda, cuya sede es una boutique de aquí de mi ciudad Granada, porque creo que tiene cosas dignas de ver. Es una tienda que podría desenvolverse perfectamente en las calles de Madrid o París, Nueva York... y sin embargo está aquí en Granada, una ciudad bastante atrasada respecto a la moda. Es su carácter algo underground el que hace que su encanto sea el doble.

Eeeeeep! I'm so excited to finally publish this post. I want to let you in on a local firm called Leonarda. They are truly worth seeing... this store could do well in one of Madrid, Paris, or even New York créme de la crème shopping streets, but oddly enough, it's lying around here in Granada, a city that is quite behind fashionally speaking. But that underground factor is one of the reasons this place is so charming. 

El espacio es realmente encantador: Javier me confesó que lo diseñaron ellos mismos y encargaron a los arquitectos; a mí personalmente la cubierta de madera me enamoró. La decoración no tiene desperdicio, ni sobra ni falta nada, y la música de fondo crea una atmósfera agradable (me siento muy orgullosa, a parte de cómoda, cuando estoy en una tienda y conozco casi todos los temas que van sonando, llamadme loca) y que facilita el shopping.

The place is so lovely: Javier told me they designed it themselves hand in hand with the architects; I personally fell in love with that wooden ceiling. Its deco is perfect in every cubic millimeter, background music is chill and creates the perfect shopping atmosphere (I must say I feel pretty proud when I walk into a store and recognize all the tunes that are playing, consequently I jam a bit on the inside haha).

Pasemos a lo esencial, las prendas. Realmente me gustaría que pudieseis ver muchas de sus piezas, y haber tomado fotografías de como quedan en persona en vez de en el maniquí, pero no hubo tiempo (además así ya tenéis excusa para organizar una escapadita a Granada y hacerles una visita). ¡Qué texturas!

Let's get to the main squeeze, the clothes. I truly wish you would have been there to see them in person, the mannequin doesn't do some of these pieces a lot of justice (this way you have an excuse to pay Granada a visit and try the clothes on yourselves) And my god, what lovely textures.

Este vestido rojo si me lo probé en persona y admito que en la percha lo subestimé. La apertura frontal tiene una caída de 10 cuando te lo pones con un tacón, vas andando y se va ondeando... fondo de armario para eventos de largo.

This red dress I did try on... I must admit that when I saw it on the hanger, I underestimated its fit. The front slit is perfectly thought out so that when you put on a pair of pumps and take a stroll, you look like a movie star or something. Perfect formal wardrobe staple.

Este vestido de vinilo, con una sútil apertura lateral, me parece el fondo de armario perfecto para cimentar un buen conjunto basado en las capas o layering: en verano con un top estampado como este, en invierno con toda clase de cardigans o jerseys de punto. En mi opinión, la textura del vinilo es genial para combinar y es muy resultona.

This vinyl dress with a subtle side slit is the perfect staple for all-season layering. Summertime? no probs, just throw on a cute printed tanktop and some statement sandals. Pair with a chunky sweater, tights, high socks and moto boots during the cold months. 

Dos alternativas muy sofisticadas al vestido standard de lentejuelas de inditex (espalda en V, muy ajustado, demasiado corto) que llevamos viendo estas fiestas: una es un vestido de corte lánguido y un panel discreto de lentejuelas, y otra es un favorecedor top de lentejuelas combinado con una falda de vuelo, ambas opciones jugando con el azul cobalto. Yo porque ya tenía conjunto de nochevieja cuando fuí a hacer el reportaje que si no... me hubiese visto seducida por el vestido!

Two very classy alternatives to the conventional, sequin dress (V back, too short, too tight) that we were tired of seeing this past holiday season: the first is a marvelous crop-ish sequin tank with a cobalt, midi flare skirt and the second is an elegant ankle-length shift dress with just the right dose of sequins. If I hadn't had my New Years Eve party by the time I visited their store for the post, I would have probably been immensely seduced by the dress.

Por último, le objet d'amour, la pieza estrella en mi opinión: el top-capa. Estaba disponible en este color champán pero también en un azul muy interesante, pero en otro tejido distinto. En mi estancia en la tienda, no podía dejar de maravillarme cada vez que lo miraba. Como me comentaba Javier, es una creación de esas que salen solas, fruto enteramente de la inspiración, nada forzado.

Fondo de armario como las otras piezas no, pero al mismo tiempo tiene algo que hace que la necesite en mi armario. Es de esas prendas que hacen que quieras acudir a algún evento importante solo para poder llevarla... me la probé. Os confirmo que es mágica.

Last but not least, le objet d'amour, the ringleader in my opinion: the cropped tank-cape. It was available in this gorgeous champaign colour but also in a really interesting shade of blue (in a different fabric though) I couldn't help but gape at it every time my eye met its bubbly presence. As Javier told me, pieces like this one are born from natural inspiration, nothing forced, just something that comes to you.
May not be as much of a wardrobe staple as the other pieces, but it has that something that makes you crave it. It's that type of garment that makes you want to be invited to some important, social event just so you get a chance to wear it. I tried it on, and I can say this much: it surely is a whimsy, magical statement piece.

Lo bueno de firmas tan independientes y humildes es el trato tan cercano con sus propios creadores: ambos Javier y Leonarda llevan la tienda por sí mismos. Disponen de dos talleres en Granada y un equipo de 9 modistas con las que se ve que trabajan muy bien. Me recibieron muy amablemente, y como persona que aspira a realizar estudios de diseño de moda, fue muy inspirador ver a gente que hace cosas tan valiosas a nivel local y que se mantiene fiel a sus raíces. Y como cliente, he de decir que prefiero mil veces hacer inversiones tanto de fondo de armario como de piezas muy particulares a gente así, a fomentar el talento local frente a las grandes multinacionales. Les agradezco muchísimo haberme permitido acercarme tanto a su obra para poder enseñaosla.

Posdata: Creo que tienen un proyecto de tienda online en marcha, los no-granadinos que queráis estar al tanto en cuanto que la abran, si queréis podéis dejarme vuestro mail en un comentario, yo hago una lista y en cuanto tenga noticias sobre su apertura os mantengo al tanto!

The good thing about such independent and humble firms is the chance of being so close to the masterminds behind it. Both Javier and Leonarda, after whom the brand is named, manage the store themselves. They have two ateliers in Granada and a team of 9 modistes which seem to do an amazing job. I was very comfortable in my visit, and as a youngling who aspires to take on fashion design studies, it was so inspiring to see people doing such amazing works of arts locally yet managing to keep their feet on the ground and stay true to their roots. On the other hand, as a customer and shopaholic, I much rather spend my money on such exquisite, unique pieces knowing I'm supporting local talents than blow my bucks on Zara and big, Inditex, money (and clone) makers.
